Now that the weather is getting nicer, students in parts of the province have been holding unofficial skip school days.
In fact, last Friday – Lambton County OPP say they laid dozens of liquor related charges at Grand Bend.
Locally, both school boards say they haven’t noticed an up-swing in absences.
Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services for the public board, Peter Rubenschuh, says it’s a bad time of year to be away from school because, “This is culminating activities, these are their final assessments…so being here at this point in time is critical in terms marking their achievement.”
Rubenschuh says skipping is obviously not something the board endorses. He says they want students to start strong and end strong.
Rubenschuh says there are consequences for missing class beginning with a conversation and then progressive discipline if the problem continues.
