Proposed rapid transit route change not sitting well

The final decision on rapid transit is expected in a week from today and some proposed last minute changes are not sitting well with everyone.

Regional Councillor Sean Strickland will table a motion to change the route through Uptown Waterloo.

However, Waterloo Councillor Karen Scian tells 570’s Gary Doyle Show, the city was not happy about the proposed change. She says, “We’ve gone through a very lengthy (consultation process) with the citizens of Waterloo, with the uptown merchants, with the BIA, with our city staff…and we as a city, as a council, unanimously supported the route that’s on the table right now.”

Scian says the proposed change would see the train run through the pedestrian area around Waterloo Public Square and she says it would impact the new skating rink.

She says Waterloo council “hit the roof” when Strickland’s proposal came forward.
