LRT meeting #2 at Council

The second night of public input on Light Rail Transit was only slightly different than the first at Regional Council chambers.
On Wednesday, just over 50 delegates expressed their feelings regarding LRT, compared to the 70 delegates the night before.
And this time the majority, by an almost a 2-to-1 margin, was in favour of building some version of LRT in the Region.
Those who were “for” LRT said the $250 million price tag to the Region represented good value.
Also, that improving North-South transit options would allow more East-West coverage; and planning for future growth around Waterloo Region starts now, and if it doesn’t, it’s too late for the next generation.
Arguments “against” building an LRT system included: the Region can’t afford the cost; it won’t be used; and the tax increase associated with LRT will be a burden.
