Storm causes house fire

It was a wild evening for weather across much of southern Ontario, including Waterloo Region.

Severe storms rolled through the area, resulting in thunder, lightning and heavy downpours.

Regional Police say a lightning strike caused a house fire on Black Cherry Street – that’s in the Columbia Forest area of northwest Waterloo.

The blaze broke out around 8:30, but everyone got out safely.

The fire was contained to the attic, and no damage figure is available.

In the province’s southwest, around Windsor and Chatham-Kent, a tornado watch was issued, although it’s not believed any tornadoes touched down.
