Braid reacts to gas prices

A local MP is reacting to the gas price roller coaster.
Kitchener-Waterloo MP Peter Braid says it’s a good thing the Industry Minister has called on refiners, distributors and retailers to appear before a parliamentary committee. He says Canadians and the Federal Government alike need to understand what’s behind the fluctuations.
Yesterday, Industry Minister Tony Clement announced the federal government is hauling oil industry executives in to explain why gasoline prices are so high. No word yet on when that’s going to happen.
Braid admits that about a third of the cost of gas comes from taxes. But, he says it’s not the taxes that are swinging wildly out of control.
Gas is down about 1.5 cents today, sitting at about $1.30 per litre at many stations around the region.
