Trade mission begins

Canada’s Technology Triangle begins a business trade mission in China today in an effort to bring foreign investors to the Waterloo Region.

Delegates will be visiting Hong-Kong, Shanghai, Chongqing, Chengdu, and Beijing. About ten people will be going on this mission including Cambridge Mayor Doug Craig.

The CTT has been very successful in other countries, the most recent being in Germany where they brought over Rimowa, the luxury luggage manufacturer which set up shop in Cambridge.

They hope to build relationships with Chinese businesses and hope to bring their investments here.

Part of foreign direct investment is two way trade so they also encourage Canadian direct investment abroad.

Some business people from the Waterloo region will be along for the mission to help build those relationships between Chinese and Canadian companies.

The visit begins today and runs through May 20th.

Organizers say these sorts of things do take time so its unclear exactly what the outcome will be but hopes are high that this mission will be a success.
