Disturbing allegations

Some disturbing allegations are being made about a ‘transition’ home in Ethiopia run by Cambridge-based Imagine Adoption.

The Toronto Star reports a Kitchener lawyer was sent there by bankruptcy trustee BDO Dunwoody in July 2009 to get a first hand look at the situation.

Ted Giesbrecht tells the Star the kids were “not getting enough to eat,” and appeared to be existing on “a kind of grain.”

He says staff were bringing in food for the children, but claims they hadn’t been paid in some time so they really were in no position to do so.

The founders of Imagine Adoption, which filed for bankruptcy protection – Rick and Susan Hayhow – face fraud and breach of trust charges.
