570 News wins four awards

570 News is the proud recipient of four Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association.

The Awards represent outstanding achievements in electronic journalism.

The four awards were for Breaking News, Best Newscast, Best Website and Overall Excellence. They were for our coverage of the Mexican resort explosion, the University of Waterloo steroids scandal and the Queen’s visit to Waterloo Region.

The prizes were handed out in the small market category.

570 News Program Director Pete Travers calls it a proud day for the station. He told 570’s Jeff Allan Show this morning, “We have an exceptional team here, exceptional news gathering team, headed by our News Director Joe Pavia…”

He says, “The one that we’re most proud of is the Overall Excellence Award…I feel lucky and privileged to work with these people.”
