Positive economic outlook for Waterloo Region

A leading financial analyst has issued a positive economic outlook for Waterloo Region.

BMO senior economist, Sal Guatieri, tells 570 News, that local job growth is poised to outpace the provincial average, with the unemployment having fallen to below seven per cent from more than ten per cent during the recession.

Guatieri adds that after suffering losses during the recession, the local manufacturing sector has staged a rebound, as the U.S. economy picks up.

He says office vacancy rates in Kitchener-Waterloo are falling, amid the pickup in business activity.

Guatieri is forecasting local economic growth this year, in keeping with the provincial average, at just under three per cent.
