The Liberals have dumped a Quebec candidate for past derogatory comments about natives, Muslims and gays.
Party leader Michael Ignatieff moved swiftly today to turf Andre Forbes, the candidate in Manicouagan.
He took the action after the NDP revealed Forbes was a founder of a group called the Association for the Rights of Whites, and has a long history of controversial statements.
The issue threatened Ignatieff’s main message to Quebec voters – that they must vote Liberal to end the divisive rule of Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
Meanwhile, on the campaign trail, Harper has promised help for foreign-trained workers as he visited a Toronto-area riding where almost half the population is new immigrants. The $6 million a year loan program would cover the cost of having foreign credentials recognized here.
NDP Leader Jack Layton is in Prince George, B.C., discussing programs to help keep seniors at home and out of hospitals or long-term care facilities.
