Distraction thefts

A warning from Waterloo Regional Police to be aware of what they call “distraction-style” thefts.

Police say they are looking into several such incidents in Cambridge.

In many cases, older people are the victims.

Here’s how it works: a female approaches a customer in a large retail or grocery store and asks for their help.

While they’re lending a hand, the suspect rips off their wallet and then uses the stolen credit and debit cards.
