Tragedy in Listowel

Provincial police have confirmed that two volunteer firefighters have died battling a blaze at a dollar store in Listowel.
The members of the Listowel Volunteer Fire Department disappeared in the thick black smoke that engulfed the building yesterday afternoon.
OPP say that they found their bodies after a search of the building.
They were identified as 30-year-old Raymond Walter from Listowel and 56-year-old Kenneth Rea from nearby Atwood.

An official says that the tight knit community of Listowel is feeling the loss quite heavily.
The store was open when the fire started and people ran into the store to tell the shoppers to get out.
Witnesses say the fire appeared to start on the roof of the building, where work may have been taking place.

Premier Dalton McGuinty has released a statement offering condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the firefighters.
He called the deaths tragic, noting volunteer firefighters take time away from their families to keep people safe.
The Ontario Fire Marshal is investigating.
