City fields complaints about sidewalks

The City of Kitchener is fielding more complaints this winter than last from residents who are fed up with slipping on sidewalks.
Director of by-law enforcement Shayne Turner says property owners don’t seem to be clearing their sidewalks within the recommended 24-hour period.
The city has received 1,700 complaints so far, up from 1,000 filed last winter.
Turner says the problem is associated not so much with the residents, but with the amount of snow we’ve received.
People who do not shovel or chip the ice off their sidewalks after getting a notice from the city will be forced to pay about 300 dollars for city crews to do it.
So far this winter, about 100 residents have had to pay that fee.
