Faint hope off to Senate

The House of Commons has voted to revoke the faint hope clause.
Justice Minister Rob Nicholson tells 570’s Gary Doyle he’s now hoping for quick passage in the Senate.
The bill would take away the chance for a murderer to apply for early parole after serving 15 years in prison.
“What victims of these individuals would tell me, is that when that 15 year period would roll around, they would become victimized over and over again,” says Nicholson.
The process involves a hearing that often requires families of the victims to testify.
The latest convict in Ontario to have his case for early parole heard is Rory Foreman, a former Conestoga College student who murdered his ex-girlfriend.
If the bill Nicholson introduced becomes law, convicts like Foreman would have to wait 25 years before they are eligible for parole.
