Former Kitchener Rangers forward Jeff Skinner is headed to the NHL All-Star Game, but he won’t have to go far as this year’s game will be held at the RBC Centre in Raleigh on Sunday.
The NHL announced that Skinner has been added as an injury replacement to the 42-player roster and will join teammates Eric Staal and Cam Ward in the game.
Skinner, who is the youngest player in the league, was originally chosen as one of 12 rookies picked to participate in NHL All-Star Weekend. The 18-year old currently leads all NHL rookies in points with 40 and assists with 22. He also ranks second in goals with 18.
Skinner will be the youngest All-Star to ever participate in the annual showcase, and here’s an example of why he’s been on the league’s radar so far this season…
He tells 570 News he still keeps in touch with some of his Kitchener teammates and keeps track of where the Kitchener Rangers are in the standings.
Skinner says it will be special playing the all-star game at the Canes’ home rink.
