Landlords irate

Waterloo and Cambridge City Councillors got an earful from landlords on a couple of fronts last night.

In Waterloo, the issue was a proposed rental licence that is estimated would cost landlords $1.2-million-dollars.

This morning’s Record quotes one landlord at the meeting as saying he was “Angry, shocked and disillusioned.”

The proposal would also cap rentals to three bedrooms per unit.

In Cambridge, the anger was over water bills.

This morning’s paper reports council has reduced the water deposit for tenants from $400 to $230.

However, it did not change its position on charging landlords for any unpaid water bills by tenants.

The 8.9% water rate increase also did not change.

Landlords argued they should not be responsible for the unpaid bills of others.
