Group drops Quran request

A local Muslim group is giving up in its’ bid to hand out the Quran in public schools.

The Kitchener Masjid was asking the Waterloo Region District Public School Board to allow it to hand out the book to fifth graders with parental consent forms.

In a news release, the group says it’s no longer pursuing the issue because Islam teaches the importance of avoiding unnecessary conflict within society.

It says the request was based on Islam’s encouragement of the exchange of knowledge and viewpoints.
