401 West reopened

Only 26 minutes after closing it, the OPP reopened the 401 Westbound in Middlesex County.

The OPP describe the 401 through Middlesex County as a “skating rink” thanks to a sudden weather change this morning.

The westbound lanes of Highway 401 in the Middlesex area, between the Ingersoll area and London, were closed at the Culloden Line.

OPP Constable Dennis Harwood tells 570 News there are icy conditions after freezing rain moved into the area.

Middlesex OPP Constable Chris Hunter said even before the closure was announced, “avoid the area if you can.”

Hunter says they’ve had numerous crashes on the highway since sudden icy conditions sprang up around 8:00 o’clock this morning between Putnam Road and Wellington Road.

Hunter says drivers will come off a dry section of the highway to find “it’s a skating rink out there” in the problem area.

Fortunately, she reports only minor injuries.
