Kettle Campaign down

Donations to the Salvation Army kettle campaign is down nationwide this year, and Waterloo Region is no exception.
Major Gary Brown tells 570 News the latest tally from the kettles in Waterloo Region was at $187,000, or a bit less than 60 per cent of the local $325,000 goal.
Brown says the donations are behind what’s been seen locally in past years, but adds those numbers don’t include last weekend’s haul.
And, these last days before Christmas are a really big push time Brown says, and it’s amazing how generous people can become.
Brown says all the money donated to into the 26 kettles in the region stays in the region to support local programs, including the Christmas gift hampers for families in need.
Nationally, the Salvation Army has collected $9.7 million in the nearly
2,000 kettles on street corners and at retail outlets, but that’s only a little
more than half of the campaign’s $18 million goal.
Kettles will remain out and about until Christmas Eve.
