Massive local drug raid

A Waterloo Regional Police spokesperson says, quote, “today will mark probably a notable difference in the illegal drug trade and the impact on our community.”
Inspector Greg Lamport says at about 6:15 a.m. today, police executed ten search warrants at ten separate residences in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, and in three townships, targeting the drug group known locally as the “Luminati.”
Lamport says this investigation began in August last year, but there were some related drug raids in Kitchener and Cambridge in the past few weeks.
Police arrested sixteen people and laid over 100 charges, including the possession and trafficking of heroin, cocaine, ecstasy and crystal methamphetamine; and the possession, production and trafficking of cannabis marihuana.
Police services from Toronto, Hamilton, Guelph, and Halton Region pitched in.
Lamport wouldn’t go so far as to say today’s arrests would result in a measurable difference in day-to-day drug activity, but the Luminati is a “very major organized crime group” dealing drugs in this community.
More information on the raids and the Luminati group will be released tomorrow.
