University of Waterloo students can stop building solar cars in the hallway, now that the new Engineering Building Number 5 is up and running.
The University celebrated the opening of the new building today, the first major new addition to the Engineering Department in almost 20 years, says Dean, Adel Sedra.
Sedra tells 570 News the six storey, $55 million building features a design centre big enough for designing and building solar cars, alternative fuels, and other large projects.
Sedra says there’s also a new anechoic chamber: a huge room, completely separated from outside electromagnetic radiation, and big enough to drive a car into.
He says this chamber will be used to test sensitive wireless equipment, particularly for vehicles.
Sedra says the new building is now the best student design centre in the world, and he looks forward to all the inventions and new businesses that will come from it.
