Amalgamation, Light Rail Transit, policing and the future of The Aud – just a sampling of the many topics touched upon last night during the Kitchener mayoralty debate heard on 570 News and Rogers TV.
When it comes to potential merger talks with the City of Waterloo, Frank Kulcsar said he is completely opposed to any form of amalgamation within the region.
Don Pinnel said there’s nothing wrong with talking about cooperation, while Carl Zehr stressed the question on the ballot is not whether or not you are in support of a merger, but rather do you wish to have the discussion.
On Light Rail Transit, Kulcsar says we don’t need it and what we do need is a more efficient busing system.
Pinnel said we need more and faster buses and while he’s skeptical of trains being brought here, he won’t rule anything out.
Zehr, meantime, said it’s too soon to say yes or no to the proposal because the numbers are still being crunched and we don’t yet have a clear picture in terms of how much it would ultimately cost local taxpayers, adding the proposal could be modified.
