The Parks Plan

The City of Kitchener is expected to pass it’s new Parks Strategic Plan at Monday’s council meeting after being approved by the Community Services Committee earlier this week.
It was originally entitled the Parks Master Plan, when work started on it over two years ago, it was renamed in June to reflect that it can be adjusted or changed to meet the needs of the community over the next 10 years.
Councillor Geoff Lorentz, Chair of the CSC, tells 570 News, at its core the Plan is designed to improve residents health, the community and the environment with strategies to achieve a sustainable city.
He adds in order for it to succeed there is a key, input from residents across the city.
The Parks Plan has 6 core themes that emerged from community consultations over the past two years including, preserving and enhancing natural areas, strengthening and expanding the community trails network, supporting the Grand River corridor and building and renewing neighbourhood parks.
Lorentz says Kitchener residents will benefit in the years to come because of this plan.
