RIM-India deal likely

The Federal Trade Minister is suggesting India and Waterloo’s Research in Motion will be successful in negotiating a compromise to keep BlackBerry service in place in the country.

Peter Van Loan and India Industry Minister Anand Sharma discussed the issue amid talks about trade in Ottawa on Friday.

Van Loan says India is seeking a similar arrangement with RIM that exists here.

If they get a warrant, Canadian police can intercept calls and other forms of communications.
