There’s more of a chance forward Jeremy Morin won’t be back with the Kitchener Rangers this season.
The NHL has ruled he’s eligible to play for Chicago’s AHL affiliate.
The Blackhawks must now decide whether Morin will play in the NHL, AHL or be sent back to the Rangers.
Rangers General Manager and Head Coach, Steve Spott says it’s a huge decision that impacts his team and the entire CHL.
He tells 570 News CHL President and OHL Commissioner David Branch is concerned as well and he’s dealing with the issue.
Spott adds something will have to be rectified before a new NHL contract is worked out.
He says the issue for him is what’s best for Morin’s development and Jeremy’s play will ultimately decide where he plays this season.
The CHL asked for clarification because Morin only turned 19 in April.
The current agreement with the NHL says players drafted out of junior can only play in the AHL if they are 20 years old by December 31st or have played four seasons in the CHL.
Last season was Morin’s first with the Rangers.
