The Harper government has brought in new measures to fight organized crime.
Justice Minister Rob Nicholson went to Montreal to announce Criminal Code changes to increase the number of acts designated as serious offenses.
Those include drug, prostitution and gambling offenses.
However, Liberal M.P Mark Holland says the Tories are using “ludicrous” justifications for what he calls their out-of-control crime spending.
He says there’s no proof to back Treasury Board President Stockwell Day’s argument that surveys are showing an increase in un-reported crime.
Nicholson had few details when asked about the surveys during a crime announcement in Montreal.
He’s glad of support from his cabinet colleagues for the government’s criminal law agenda.
