Search continues for boy in Peterborough

Police divers, fire boats and an OPP helicopter continue to patrol the Otonabee river, as the search for a missing 4-year-old boy is now a recovery effort.

The young boy went missing Thursday morning around 10:30.

The Peterborough Examiner reported the child was swimming with family at Inverlea Beach when he got caught up in the current and was swept under a bridge.

Divers are now focused on the area surrounding the bridge as their search continues.

Police have cordoned off a large section of the park and an ambulance is on standby.

There is no word on whether or not the boy was wearing a life jacket.

The incident comes before the launch of Drowning Prevention Week in Ontario. 13 people have died in Provincial waters since the summer season officially began.
