TORONTO – Toronto police released photos Wednesday afternoon of suspects being hunted for smashing windows and torching police cars during the G20 summit in Toronto.
Police want the public’s help in tracking them down.
The G20 investigative team released images of the suspects in hopes people will recognize them and identify them to police.
It’s believed the people being hunted were behind the riot of vandalism that spread through the downtown during the G20.
The property damage involved smashed windows, spray-painted property and police cars that were set on fire.
Meanwhile, police have arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with the burning of police cars during the G20.
Ashran Ravindhraj of Toronto has been charged with arson. This is related to the torching of two cruisers at Queen Street West and Spadina Avenue.

In a related story, a civil liberties group is condemning a plan by Toronto police to use the facial recognition software to help identify people on a G-20 “most wanted” list.
The investigation would involve scanning thousands of digital images taken during the summit weekend protests.
The force intends to work with the Canadian Bankers Association, which owns the facial recognition software.
Nathalie Des Rosiers, of the Civil Liberties Association, says there is a danger that many people could be arrested based on a technology that has not been fully explored and tested in the legal system.
Detective Sergeant Giroux says he doesn’t see the plan as violating civil liberties because the people were in public places.
Police expect to release more suspect photos in the weeks to come.
