Robertson to retire

C-T-V will name a successor tonight to one of the most familiar faces on Canadian television.

Lloyd Robertson will retire as the network’s chief anchor in mid-2011.

The 76-year-old made the announcement at the end of last night’s national newscast.

Robertson’s successor will share anchor duties with him over the next 12 months before taking over completely.

Once Robertson leaves the anchor’s seat, he’ll move on to other roles, including a position as co-host of current affairs series W-5.

Ivan Fecan, the chief executive officer of C-T-V, says Robertson is the most trusted anchor in Canada and everyone will be sorry to see him go.

But Fecan adds C-T-V is “buoyed by the fact that (Robertson) will remain in the CTV family for as long as he likes.”

Robertson, who joined CTV in 1976 and has been chief anchor since 1983, is the second anchor to announce a departure this year.

In May, Global T-V’s Kevin Newman said he was stepping down after 10 years in the anchor’s chair.
