Ontario’s power grid is expected to be under heavy strain today, as the province remains in the grips of a blistering heat wave.
It’s also prompting hydro officials to urge residents to go easy on their usage by keeping close tabs on how cool you keep your home.
The Independent Electricity System Operator, which tracks province-wide electricity usage throughout the day, predicts peak demand today will be around 6 this evening at close to 25,000 megawatts.
That’s not far off from the summer record peak of 27,000 megawatts, recorded on August 1st 2006.
Yesterday’s peak was a shade over 24,500 megawatts, which exceeded the IESO’s forecast.
