Summer is officially here!

Get ready for the longest day of the year today – at least in terms of daylight.

The summer solstice was at 7:28 this morning, meaning spring ends and summer begins.

570 News weather specialist John Wilson says the sun is highest in the sky today giving us maximum daylight hours of 15 hours, 25 minutes and 14 seconds.

After today, daylight hours decrease, albeit very slowly.

We’ll have 3 seconds less daylight tomorrow.

An odd fact: we are actually closer to the sun in January than we are now, but the tilt of the Earth toward the sun at this time of year gives us the additional sunlight and warmer temperatures.
