A Kitchener-based call centre plans to lay off up to 200 workers later this summer after losing a couple of major contracts.
About 1,200 people work at the Arvato Digital Services call centre, which occupies three floors of an office building in downtown Kitchener.
Greg Brown, Arvato’s vice-president of human resources for North America, says a couple of major clients have taken away projects handled by the Kitchener office.
The Kitchener office handles calls for travel companies and financial services firms among other clients.
A few employees have been laid off already, but Brown says the bulk of the layoffs will not occur until late August or early September when the contracts expire.
Brown says Arvato is trying to save as many jobs as possible in Kitchener.
