Region accepts the challenge

The results are in and Waterloo Region did more than just hold its own in last week’s Commuter Challenge.  When it comes to participation, the preliminary results place us first in Ontario and second in all of Canada.

The goal was to ditch the car and find alternate modes of transportation during the week.

This morning’s Record reports the numbers show 60 local organizations registered for the challenge and at least 1,300 individuals did likewise – walking, biking, carpooling or taking the bus.

The results are even more impressive when you consider there were computer issues with the new challenge website.

To assist residents, regional employees pitched in by helping them to register in light of the problems and also took down details from those who didn’t have a computer.

Guelph also faired well, placing second in Ontario.
