30 years for KWBWA

The K-W Business Women’s Association is celebrating 30 years with a gala event today at Bingeman’s. The event is a social gathering, which is a little out of character for the non-profit organization that is primarily concerned with providing network opportunities to women wishing to promote their businesses as well as opportunities for both professional and personal growth.
Shirley Lichti is a 16-year member of the KWBWA and says the gala will allow businesswomen to network in a more casual environment, meet members past and present and mingle with successful business owners in the region. Lichti tells 570 News the Association got its start at a time when the business landscape was much more challenging for women. Thirty years ago, Lichti says there were not nearly as many women in business and those that were realized they needed support from their peers. Ultimately, the KWBWA would form as a means of creating not just a support network but also as a network for doing business with one another. Today, Lichti says the Association remains successful as more and more women enter the business world and find the supports they’re looking for within the organization.
New members of the KWBWA are afforded the opportunity to immediately do a 30-minute career talk. Lichti says this is essentially a half hour commercial for someone’s business and allows others in the Association to understand who the ideal clients for that business may be and who they might be able to refer. The KWBWA also does periodical updates to inform members of the evolution of the company and an Association newsletter allows members to promote their businesses and share secrets of success.
Today’s gala runs from 12-2 PM at the Embassy Room at Bingeman’s.
