Prime Minister Harper is bracing municipal leaders for the federal stimulus funding tap to be turned off.
Harper told a meeting of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities in Toronto today the stimulus program will not be extended.
It’s due to expire at the end of Ottawa’s current fiscal year in March.
Kitchener Mayor, Carl Zehr is Chair of the Big City Mayors’ Caucus.
Zehr was in Toronto for the announcement and says he wasn’t surprised.
He tells 570 News at the municipal level they were able to deliver a significant portion of the federal stimulus projects.
Zehr says was also happy to hear that the gas tax revenue will be permanent and be another source of income they can count on.
