Remembering Trooper Rudd

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch in Brantford is in a “sombre” mood following the death of a local soldier.
Trooper Larry Rudd of Brantford was killed by a roadside bomb yesterday, 20 kilometres southwest of Kandahar city.
President of Legion Branch 90 in Brantford, Chrystal Petit-Pas says it’s a shock to lose a local soldier.
And it “hits home when it’s another young man taken too soon.”
She adds, new veterans are made every day, and unfortunately, new casualties as well.
Petit-Pas expects a similar showing of public respect in Brantford as was seen two years ago during the services for 32-year old Capt. Richard Leary.
She says when Leary’s funeral procession was heading to the cemetery, citizens lined the sidewalks three or four people deep.
Petit-Pas says her Branch may contact the family and offer their support, but only after a suitable period of time — for now, they want to give the family their privacy.
26-year-old Rudd is the fourth member of the Canadian military to die in Afghanistan this month and the 146th since the mission started in 2002.
