Waterloo Regional Police patrolled downtown Kitchener on horseback this morning.

The equestrian unit is part of a two year pilot project approved by the force back in September.

Constable Tim Peterson tells 570 News they have gotten a lot of positive feedback because an officer on a horse provides such an obvious presence.

The unit consists of two horses and two officers.
