Opponents of a proposed gravel pit in West Montrose will gather tonight for a public meeting.
It’s being held at the Woolwich Township offices starting at seven.
Capital Paving of Guelph has applied for a zoning change that, if approved, would allow it to operate a gravel pit on 47 hectares of land.
Those opposed warn it puts at risk the community’s historic covered bridge, which is located just 180 metres away from the excavation site. Opposition is led by a group known as the BridgeKeepers. They also say they’re concerned about noise, the potential threat to the nearby Grand River and increased traffic in the area.
