Everyone in Waterloo Region can have their say about everything in the Region that deals with getting anywhere in the Region.
Two public input sessions on long-term transportation planning are happening today — the first is 9 o’clock Tuesday morning, while the the second will be held at 7 o’clock Tuesday evening. Both are happening in council chambers at Regional Headquarters located at 150 Frederick St. in Kitchener.
The Region’s Director of Transportation Planning, Graham Vincent, says the morning session is all about corridor design, taking a “complete streets” outlook and trying to accommodate not just vehicles, but also pedestrians and cyclists.
The evening meeting, Vincent says will be about the proposed 20-year master plan for not just rapid transit, but all things on how to move around the community.
Vincent says the master plan will deal with population growth among other issues.
He says if growth continues as it is now, we’ll need 25 new Hespeler Roads to fit all the traffic.
The last transportation master plan was made in 1999. Vincent says input received at today’s two meetings will be included in a staff report to Regional Council.
