Robert Munsch comes clean

Renowned children’s author Robert Munsch’s latest story isn’t intended to be for his young “Munschkin” fans.
It’s a shocking — and real — tale of cocaine and alcohol addictions and mental health problems.
In a message titled “Note to Parents” posted on his website, the bestselling author says he’s been diagnosed as obsessive-compulsive and manic-depressive.
Munsch adds that those challenges led him to make some mistakes. He doesn’t get into detail in his message, but in an interview that aired on Global TV this weekend Munsch admitted to being a recovering cocaine addict and alcoholic. The 64-year-old said he’s been clean for about four months.
He says on his website that his mental health and addiction problems are no secret to his friends and family.
Munsch has written more than 50 books, including the hugely successful “Love You Forever” and “The Paper Bag Princess.”
He has sold more than 30- (m) million copies worldwide. Munsch was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 1999 and was inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame last September.
