The 401 Eastbound just past Woodstock finally got back to normal around 6:00 am Friday morning after a fatal crash kept it closed for almost ten hours overnight.
A Mississauga man, 30 year old Kar Ho Kenneth Wong, died in Woodstock hospital last night following the 8:00 p.m. crash on the 401 just past the Blandford Road bridge.
OPP Constable Dennis Harwood tells 570 News the problems came when Wong’s eastbound car tried to pass a transport truck during heavy rain. The vehicles collided, sending the car into the ditch and the truck crashing through the concrete barriers protecting a highway construction zone.
Harwood says seven of those barriers, each weighing 5,300 pounds, had to be replaced before the highway could reopen. Harwood says OPP crash investigators are working to determine how much of a factor the rain was in this crash.
But he says it’s a reminder to all drivers to drive according to the weather.
