Expanding ROOF

They’ve been a part of our community for more than 20 years but, today ROOF will expand their facilities.
Until now, ROOF has acted as a 3 prong support program for troubled and homeless youth in the Region. Today they’ll open their doors to PAR (Providing a Roof), a dorm-style shelter for ages 16-25.
The shelter is the fourth addition to ROOF’s system. They already supply food, resources, laundry, showers and support programs for at-risk, and homeless youth. Executive Director Sandy Dietrich-Bell says it was difficult to send young people into the street at night. Now, the youth who’ve built a rapport with ROOF staff, will be given a warm bed to sleep in.
Ten beds are available at the new shelter but, Dietrich-Bell says arrangements can now be made for any youth in need. Youth can stay as long as it takes to get back on their feet.
Dietrich-Bell adds that the continued success of ROOF wouldn’t be possible without the support of the community.
