A special ceremony will be held today at the National War Memorial in Ottawa to honour those who fought in the First World War.
Prime Minister Harper along with governor general Michaelle Jean and chief of defence staff Gen. Walter Natynczyk will attend the National End of an Era Commemorative Ceremony.
The ceremony is being held on Vimy Ridge Day, marking the 93rd anniversary of an event considered a defining moment for Canada.
The ceremony will begin with a tribute to John Babcock, Canada’s last First World War veteran, who died in February at age 109.
Ceremonies will also be held across Canada as well as at the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France.
