Moving forward together to help newcomers move fully into Waterloo Region’s life and culture.
That’s what today’s community forum from the Local Immigration Partnership Council is all about.
Interim Chair of the LIPC, Lucia Harrison, tells 570 News her council brought together all the local immigration stakeholders today to decide on strategies for settling into, working in, and belonging to the Regional community.
Harrison says this is the first time they’ve tried to get all the local social agencies together to move forward as one.
The LIPC has already done extensive community consultation to formulate those strategies.
Harrison says “it’s obviously complicated” to work on such a wide range of issues and details from providing services for ESL classes to employment opportunities.
But with all advocacy groups and stakeholders collaborating together, Harrison says they can be that much more effective.
She adds if everyone today agrees on how to move forward to achieve goals, they move forward; if not, it’s “back to the drawing board.”
Harrison says finding funding, however, is always a part of moving strategies forward.
Some 200 people attended today’s gathering in Waterloo.
