Bauer Hockey is recalling about 100,000 kids’ hockey sticks over lead concerns.
Thirteen models of sticks failed to meet the acceptable standard for lead content following a Health Canada test back in February. Health Canada told Bauer that paint on a randomly selected stick had tested high.
The company has issued a global stop sale order on the 13 models and is telling parents of kids with the sticks to call 1-888-734-0443.
Bauer says it will take the sticks back and replace them with a free, elite level stick.
Bauer makes around one million sticks a year.
At least one local retailer is pulling Bauer hockey sticks from his shelves.
Vince Turkalg owns Sportzone in Waterloo.
He tells 570 News he pulled almost two dozen sticks from his shelves today and probably sold hundreds of the sticks on the recall list over the past two years.
Parents of young hockey players say they are surprised by the recall.
Monique has three young boys who play hockey and she says she will be more conscientious the next time she goes to buy a stick.
