St. Patrick’s Day!

Thousands of people across the country and here in the region will be getting a little green today and celebrating the luck of the Irish.
It’s St. Patrick’s Day! A borrowed tradition from the thousands of Irish immigrants who came to Canada in the 19th Century.  Named after St. Patrick, the patron saints of Ireland, it began as a Christian holiday and has become a celebration of Irish culture. Bars across Waterloo Region are preparing for the night’s festivities, including Kennedy’s in St. Agatha. The Irish tavern will be serving up green beer, corn beef and cabbage and Leprechaun pie.
Owner Mike Kennedy tells 570 News they also have a variety of entertainment including performances by Mark Geraghty and the Doyle Academy of Irish Dancers.
Kennedy says they’ve been throwing St. Patrick’s Day parties for a quarter of a century and each year gets better. Today’s festivities get underway at 12:00 p.m. and run into the evening.
