Record setting weather

We’ve set a weather record for March 16th.
The temperature hit 15 degrees Celsius Tuesday afternoon at the Region of Waterloo International Airport.
It was 14.3 degrees on this day back in 1995.
According to Environment Canada Senior Climatologist, David Phillips says it’s possible more records could continue to fall for the rest of the week.
The warmest St. Patrick’s Day on record was 16.5 degrees and Phillips believes our forecast high of 16 tomorrow will threaten that.
Thursday and Friday records are about 12 and 13 degrees, respectively, and Phillips’ forecast suggests those temperatures are not safe either as we look ahead to the start of spring on Saturday afternoon at 1:32 PM.
570 News Weather Specialist John Wilson says these modern records are one thing but if we look back almost 70 years we’ll find something akin to a heat wave.
In the mid-1940’s, says Wilson, we had temperatures at this time of year in the range of 19 to 21 degrees from Windsor to Toronto. But, he says those statistics were registered before official records were kept.
