Students help Haiti

Students and staff from public schools in the region have raised just over 300 thousand dollars for the relief effort in Haiti.

The Waterloo Region District School Board made the announcement today.

The money raised will be matched by the federal government.

Director of Education Linda Fabi says they are overwhelmed by the response.

She says they did not set a fundraising target.

Schools arranged a wide variety of activities to collect donations, including twoonies for Haiti and bake sales.

Funds go to the Mennonite Central Committee and the Canadian Red Cross.
