Rangers weekend started on a sour note

The Kitchener Rangers (37-17-3-2) dropped two of three over the weekend, falling nine points back of the London Knights (43-14-0-2) for first place in the Midwest Division with nine games to play. The weekend started on a sour note with a 4-3 overtime loss to the Guelph Storm on Friday. The Rangers led that game 1-0 after one period and tied it with a goal late in the third only to fall in overtime on Michael Latta’s second goal of the game for the Storm.
In Owen Sound on Saturday, the Rangers were playing catch up all night after falling behind 2-0. But a hat trick by Jeff Skinner in the third period sent the game to a shootout where Kitchener would win 6-5 on a goal by Jeremy Morin. Morin also scored in regulation for his 38th goal of the season. Skinner’s hat trick gives him 44 goals on the campaign.
Another slow start cost Kitchener in Oshawa on Sunday. The Rangers fell behind 4-0 before making a game of it, clawing back to 5-3 after two periods. But a Matt Tipoff goal was all Kitchener could muster in the third, losing the game 5-4.
The Rangers next action is Thursday in Sarnia (broadcast time 7 PM, faceoff at 7:30 on 570 News).
