College teachers vote today on contract offer

With the threat of a strike looming, the provinces 9,000 college instructors will vote today on a contract offer.
Ontario’s colleges are taking a tough stand, telling faculty it’s their final offer and vowing not to return to the bargaining table if the contract is rejected.
The instructors have set a February 17th strike date — a move that would end classes for 200-thousand full-time students.
Chief negotiator for the colleges, Rachael Donovan put it bluntly, saying: If they reject the offer “it means that faculty will be going on strike.”
She says the colleges can’t afford any more than what they’ve already offered and will not return to the bargaining table.
OPSEU is recommending the teachers vote against the offer.
